Expert Answers about Jeep Tow Bar Wiring

  • Troubleshooting a 2020 Ford F-350 That Does Not Have Working Turn Signals When Using a Lightbar
  • Hey John, so I would try and see if you can narrow down the issue by removing the light bar and connecting the truck and towed vehicle together and see if the problem continues. If it does then you know the issue is most likely with your connector or your wiring on either the towed vehicle or the truck. If it doesn't, and everything works then you know the issue is with the light bar.

  • Blue Ox Tow Bar and Base Plate Kit that Fits 2024 Jeep Wagoneer
  • Hey Wayne, so the Blue Ox Base Plate kit part # BLU46CR is a confirmed fit for your 2024 Jeep Wagoneer and while the bracket width is on the wider side it has been tested and works fine with Blue Ox tow bars. We do have the Blue Ox Avail Tow Bar part # BX7420 which does have a lot longer arms which might help you feel better about the bracket width. The arms of this are 42-1/4 inches long. There is a death wobble issue potentially with your vehicle and for that you might need the MOPAR...

  • Troubleshooting A 2017 Ram 2500 That's Sending Constant Power To The Trailer Running Light Circuit
  • Hey Karl, The trailer running lights shouldn't be receiving power unless the running lights in the Ram are on. I'd doublecheck the wiring for the vehicle's running lights to see if power is somehow getting sent to the trailer running lights. You could have a short or knick in the wiring somewhere and it's touching the wire to provides power to the trailer running light fuse, causing the constant power to the trailer running lights.

  • 2020 Lincoln Navigator Battery Died After Flat Towing For A Short Distance
  • Do you have a charge line installed on the new battery you put in your Navigator? If not, that will definitely explain why the battery died so quickly. You can use the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 to run a charge line from the 6-pin to the battery. This way the vehicles battery will be charged by the motorhome. You will also want to make sure the charge line is wired to the center pin of the 6-pin plug since you are using the Blue Ox 7-Wire to 6-Wire Cord # BX88206.

  • Troubleshooting Loss Of Function With K-Source Custom Towing Mirrors
  • Hey David, The K-Source Custom Flip Out Towing Mirrors # KS60195-96C are a confirmed fit for a 2020 Ram 1500 Classic so that leads me to believe that either the mirrors had a defect from the manufacturer or that there's and issue with the connection between the factory wiring and mirrors. Check to make sure there isn't some sort of debris or even a bent pin in the connectors. If you find nothing then try re connecting the wire harnesses and retest the functions. It could be as simple as...

  • Troubleshooting Intermittent Trailer Disconnected Message When Towing
  • Hey Bill thanks for your question. Like you said there are several things that can cause an intermittent trailer disconnected message. The most common cause is a rusty or corroded trailer connector. Go ahead and inspect the trailers 7-way plug. If there is noticeable rust or corrosion it will need to be replaced with something like the 7-Way Round RV Style Trailer Connector # A7WCB. I suggest using a bit of Dielectric Grease # 11755 on the trailer plug and the vehicles 7-way. It is ok...

  • Will The Roadmaster Diode Prevent Power From Solar Panels Back-Feeding To Tow Vehicle?
  • The Single Diode # RM-690 is going to be a better option than the Diode # RM-790 as it only has the single input rather than a dual input. Ideally your 5th wheel should have come with a In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # RED96FR which would prevent the power from backflowing either from the solar panels or when connected at a campground. If you choose to go with the single diode you want to wire it in line of your 7-way charge line wiring before it enters the Junction Box # 3375601101....

  • Troubleshooting Loss Of Trailer Running Light Function On A 2019 Toyota Highlander XLE
  • Hey Johnathan, Since you've already checked the fuses and found everything was fine that leads me to believe that the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness # HM11141825 has an internal short. I recommend unplugging it from the factory connector and then turn on your running lights. You can then test the factory connector using a circuit tester # PTW2992 to see if the signal is coming through. If it is then we know the # HM11141825 just needs to be replaced. If the signal isn't coming...

  • Troubleshooting Turn Signal Circuits of 7-Way that Have 12 Volts All the Time
  • Hey Mark, so what is most likely going on is that there is a short between the 12 volt accessory circuit of your 7-way and the turn signal circuits that are hot all the time. This is most likely due to a problem with the wiring behind connector due to exposed wire and if you inspect and fix that you should be good.

  • Solution for Towing 2022 Ford Bronco Sport Behind Motorhome
  • The short answer to your question is you don't. The 2022 Ford Bronco Sport states in the owner's manual "You cannot recreational tow your vehicle with all wheels on the ground because vehicle or transmission damage could occur." The Rear, All-Wheel, and Four-Wheel drive models require using a trailer. If you have the Front-Wheel drive model you can use a tow dolly like the Demco Kar Kaddy X # DM9713093.

  • Troubleshooting a Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness That Does Not Work
  • Sorry to hear about that Michael. There are a couple of basic troubleshooting steps you can do but really the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package # C56357 is plug and play. The first thing I'd check is the ground wire and make sure it's connected to a solid bare metal surface that does not have any dirt or rust. Also make sure the wire isn't damaged or loose. If that's all good check and make sure that the connector is getting the proper 12V needed to operate....

  • Troubleshooting Lack Of Signal With A Voyager WiSight 2.0 RV Camera System
  • Hi Don, Typically if there is a signal issue with a camera system, like your Voyager # ASA84YR, it's a power issue. Most wireless camera systems are wired into the running light circuit or reverse light circuit. If it's wired to the running light circuit then you'll need to turn your running lights on in the tow vehicle. If it's wired to the reverse light circuit the camera will only come on when backing up. If that wasn't the issue then the next step would be to check the voltage running...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Light Issue with Curt Wiring Kit on a 2010 Toyota Sienna
  • Thanks for the information, Dave! The trouble you're experiencing with the Curt T-Connector # C55580 on your 2010 Toyota Sienna could either be on your trailer directly, or it could be that the converter box has gone out. The best way to figure out which part is the problem is to hook your trailer up to a different vehicle or use a circuit tester # PTW2993 to test the output side of the black box on the Curt wiring. If the trailer side is the problem then you probably have a bad connection...

  • Troubleshooting A Curt Towed Vehicle Wiring Harness On A 2023 Jeep Gladiator
  • Hi Philip, If just the running lights aren't working then you'll want to start by testing the 4-pole connector on the motorhome to see if the signal is sending out to Gladiator. If not then you could have a short in the wiring somewhere, a blown fuse, or your running lights just aren't turned on in the motorhome. I'd start by making sure that your running lights are turned on in the motorhome. If you're not driving in the dark they probably aren't coming on automatically. You can test...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Lights Not Working Correctly on a 2003 Featherlite Gooseneck Trailer
  • It sounds like your 2003 Featherlite gooseneck trailer was rewired if the wiring is not matching up correctly for the 7-Way # A10-7W6. This tends to happen a lot on some of the older trailers as they are usually just done by someone who really doesn't know what they are doing. You are going to want to try and trace the wiring to first verify they are connected correctly as I have often seen the running lights wiring tied into the wrong terminal on the tail lights as well. I have linked...

  • Troubleshooting Intermittent Trailer Connection 2013 Ford F-150
  • Ford F-150's are an odd bunch when it comes to connecting to trailer wiring for some reason. While we haven't seen this exact issue it does not surprise me. It typically has to do with the 12 volt accessory circuit of the trailer wiring though so that would be where I would be inclined to start. If trailer has aluminum frame make sure you have a jumper wire from the ground harness back to the trailer wiring connector.

  • Should B&W Continuum PSI Drop & Should it be Low
  • Hey Joe, thanks for the purchase of the B&W Continuum Weight Distribution # BW88FR and both things you are seeing are normal, as there is a limiter in the pressure relief valve. As for the ground clearance, that is also normal, though I completely understand the concern. We brought that up with B&W when they were here showing this to us and insisted that they did not have a single issue in many thousands of miles of testing.

  • Trailer Lights Help
  • The first thing to do is take a look at your owner's manual to locate any fuses or relays and ensure they are all there and in working order. If they are, in order to determine the specific problem you will need a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the connector on your vehicle after disconnecting it from your trailer. Check the wiring going into your harness from your tail lights to see if those wires are carrying the correct signals, if not then the issue is with the vehicle wiring. If...

  • Is There 7-Way Tester For Volvo With Factory Trailer Wiring
  • Hi Al, There is not a standalone 7-way tester that works with your Volvo with the factory trailer wiring. This is a pretty common problem with these vehicles so what you would need to do is use a standard 7-way tester like # C66NR but also add the 7-Way Trailer Adapter for Towing Trailers with LED Lights # C57003.

  • Troubleshooting a Trailer With Running Lights That Don't Work
  • If you've already tested the lights on another trailer and they work, then the issue has to be with your camper. Somewhere in your trailer's wiring there is an issue, so you'll need to go through it and check for damage or broken wires. I recommend starting with your trailer's connector, though. The simplest things are often overlooked, so I'd start here and look for any signs of corrosion or damage. If the contacts in the connector aren't making a good connection with the tow vehicle...
